Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir contradicted his statement that MS Dhoni’s final six didn’t win the ICC World Cup 2011 alone. He while commentating during the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 game between India and Pakistan in Pallekele made a completely different statement.
Gautam Gambhir has always been against those who credit MS Dhoni for winning the ICC World Cup 2011. Whenever there’s a talk about the tournament, the former Indian cricketer always has been vocal, saying that the efforts of the whole team won the tournament for India, not MS Dhoni alone.

As the match between the two arch-rivals was taking place, Gautam Gambhir talked about the Asia Cup 2010 game between India and Pakistan. He mentioned that although he had a partnership with MS Dhoni, it was Harbhajan Singh who hit the winning runs and therefore he should be the one who won the game for the team.

Coming to that match India were chasing 268 runs to win against Pakistan. They lost quick wickets and were 82/2. But after that, Gautam Gambhir (83) and MS Dhoni (56) stitched a 98-run partnership but lost their wickets at crucial junctures.
The game went down the order but it was Harbhajan Singh, who slammed two magnificent sixes to win the game for his team. India won the game by the margin of 7 wickets and Gautam Gambhir was awarded Man of the Match.

Coming to the match, Pakistan left India tottering at 66/4. But after that, Ishan Kishan (82) and Hardik Pandya (89) stitched a valiant 138-run partnership to bail India out of trouble. Their valuable contributions powered India to a total of 266 runs. The second innings didn’t take place as the game was called off due to rain.
